Well, personally I was invited into it. I would think you can sign up on mail.google.com though, btw don't put www. in front of it, or it won't work. Just thought I'd add that.
Reply:It is very quirky in how Google has setup their way to sign up for Gmail. Unless they changed the process over the last few weeks, you need to use a cell phone that accepts text messages.





Go to the following location:





http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/





Select Gmail (towards the bottom of the page) and following the instructions for signing up. Somewhere through the process, you will be asked for a cell phone number and service provider. A code will be sent to the phone that you use to go through the rest of the sign-up process.





In my opinion, Yahoo Mail works better especially if you travel from computer to computer. The Yahoo personal environment has a few years development over Google's counterpart.
