Where do Google get the super huge space for the millions of Gmail account?

Gmail storage is currently rising at 1/1000 MB every 25 seconds. This means that

It takes a little over 6 hours 56 minutes to increase one MB

Every day storage increases by 3.456 MB

It takes 289 days to increase 1 gigabyte

By the turn of the next millenium, Gmail users will have 1,257,183 MB of storage, enough to store about 100 million emails

so you see if your HD has 80 Gb, it would take some time to fill it up ... imagine what one of the biggest companies cand do =)

They have a lot of servers and they use distributed systems for redundancy and caching. They should be using some sort of compression as well, so the 2.5+ GB may only be a couple hundred megs. Plus they bank on not many people maxing out the capacity of their accounts.
Reply:They have lots and lots of servers, or computers with really big hard drives, at their warehouse-type facilities. That's where everyone's e-mail and stuff is stored.
