How do I get an @gmail.com account instead of @googlemail.com?

I want to make a gmail e-mail account and it seems that Google only lets you register @googlemail.com accounts since 2005, is there any way of getting a @gmail.com account?

Unless you can travel outside of the UK to register your account and say that you live outside the UK also, you can't get an @gmail.com account, but I'd say that an @googlemail.com account is just as good.
Reply:@googlemail.com or @googlemail.co.uk is exactly the same as @gmail.com or @gmail.co.uk. You can sign in at googlemail.com with any. If you sign up with "' john@googlemail.com'". You can log in with "'john@gmail.com'".
Reply:go to gmail.com
